The standard working week consists of 8 hours a day and 40 hours per week. During Ramadan, working hours are reduced to accommodate fasting, usually to 6 hours a day. Remote working is often allowed during this period. Overtime pay is at 135% of regular salary for daylight hours and 170% for night work.
Progressive income tax rates ranging from 0% to 25% for net income not exceeding 600,000 EGP, and up to 27.5% for income over 1,200,000 EGP annually.
The minimum wage in Egypt is set at 7,000 EGP per month. The minimum hourly wage for part-time workers is 28 EGP.
Egypt observes several public holidays, totaling approximately 17 days per year. Dates are subject to change by government decision.
Employees are entitled to up to 6 months of paid sick leave, covered by social security. The first 90 days are paid at 75% of regular salary, increasing to 85% for the next 90 days.
Female employees are entitled to 90 days of paid maternity leave, with 100% salary coverage. Upon return, women are entitled to nursing breaks for up to two years after birth.
Employees are entitled to 21 working days of paid annual leave per year, increasing to 30 days after ten years of employment or for employees over 50 years of age. Unused vacation days carry over to the next year.
The termination process varies by contract type. A committee with judicial powers must approve terminations. Notice periods are 2 months for less than 10 years of service and 3 months for more.
